S3E6: The Shadow in the Night

It’s party time in Tanchico! Min and Nynaeve, master spies, get roaring drunk. Elayne and Mat keep a very low profile, blending in seamlessly. Oh, and lest we forget: THOM BLOODY MERRILIN!

Meanwhile, in the Two Rivers, the Cauthon sisters learn to channel a bit and Faile reveals that she has a big fan in the writers’ room.

Rand and Egwene’s breakup fight is interrupted by evil Aiel and one of the Forsaken. Also, Josha shows off why they cast him in this role.

S3E5: Tel’aran’rhiod

Big payoffs for book readers this week, as Egwene learns to Dreamwalk, Perrin confronts the Whitecloaks, and Elayne encounters the Sea Folk Windfinders. Meanwhile, Elaida and Siuan contend for control of the Tower, Mat reunites with Min, and Rand gets possibly his last chance to be young and innocent.

S3E3: Seeds of Shadow

The pawns of the Shadow are on the move. Lanfear gathers the other Forsaken, the Black Ajah arrive in Tanchico, Elaida Sedai begins making moves in Tar Valon, and the Children of the Light increase the pressure to force Perrin out of hiding. Meanwhile, although we haven’t heard the word ta’veren spoken in quite some time, the heroes all bend the Pattern around themselves and at the same time are hopelessly entangled in its skeins.

S3E2: A Question of Crimson

Home is a concept that is far out of reach in Season 3 of Amazon’s The Wheel of Time. Rand follows Aviendha into the Three-Fold Land, from whence his parents came. Elayne battles her family’s intent to return her to Caemlyn. Perrin goes back to the Two Rivers to find it changed. And Moiraine gets a new hat.

Errata: The mourning traditions I talk about didn’t happen in this episode—the apple orchard scene is in episode 3

S3E1: To Race the Shadow

The Wheel of Time is back, and so are the Woolheads! Although James might have been replaced by a Cylon.

This season wastes no time getting to the action, with a cadre of Darkfriends among the Aes Sedai violently revealing their treachery before we even see the title card. In spite of grave losses in the White Tower, our young heroes get an important chance to strengthen their bonds with one another before their paths diverge once again.

S2E8: What Was Meant to Be

At long last, everyone has arrived in Falme, and it’s time for the Dragon to proclaim himself! As the Children of the Light assault the town, Perrin and Aiel track down Loial and Ingtar, who have escaped captivity and acquired the Horn of Valere in a thrilling and action-packed scene that takes place entirely off-screen. Rand wanders around killing people at random. Egwene gets tired of waiting and rescues herself. Mat releases all of the ta’veren he’s evidently been storing up over both seasons. Moiraine makes another bid for being the main character. And Elayne and Nynaeve may as well have stayed home.

But all of my snark aside, this was a terrific episode that had us in tears and on our feet cheering by turns. A fitting finale for season 2!

The Woolheads will return to our mics when season three is released.
